4th August – Thirsty Thursday! Cult Piss, More Cult Piss + The September Tasting

G'day!

Quite good news for my cult wine acid lovers this morning. Quite good news for wine lovers in general, us having something for everyone all the time as we do. Remember, if you want that nice wine action satisfaction for the weekend, and you don't live in London, now is the time to strike, or until 2:30pm anyway. If you're stuck in this humid metropolis like us, you can order up until 2:30pm on Friday and still get it Saturday. Too easy mate.

So, cult wine ay?

Yes. Cult wine, that could be in your mouth. Let's start in the north. Clos des Plantes! They're back, this time with more of the scintillating Poïèsis. A wine that blows me away time after time. A wine that I spent my own hard earnt on twice in one week at a licensed venue that wasn't my own. A wine that I'll be squirrelling away a case of this time round. There's never much, so it's a wine to swoop for. All the gear Olivier is putting out shares the same robust acid line, a real nerve jangler. Love it. The Whaka Piripiri Mai shows a bit more generosity. One of each you say? Fair call, do it right here.

Ahhhh Guffens-Heynen. You love to see it, but you don't. I've just received some of the next best thing. Wines made by them in their Southern Rhone Château des Tourettes. High altitude limestone soils are the perfect playmate for this astoundingly good producer, with a focus on wines of tension and understated exuberance. Quite like me. We poured a mixture of these by the glass last weekend in the bar, and I fully expect those who dabbled to start clicking now. A worthy intermediary whilst we wait with fingers and toes crossed for an allocation of their hens-teeth Mâconnais wines. A boy can dream, or a boy can drive to France and load up the van.... watch this space. Click here for instant satisfaction!

Blink and we'll be in September, which is just as well because hot of the back of yet another raucous Tuesday tasting I'm pleased to announce the next one - Alt Piss! Strike whilst the iron is hot so they say. On Tuesday the 6th of September we're gonna deep dive into wines that come from places that you don't expect them to come from. Come, learn, or just drink and chat.
