THERE IS A STORM BREWIN'

by Fionn Reidy

G’day,

I couldn’t let Fionn have all the fun as we return from another salubrious long weekend. How’s the head/heart/wallet/sunburn?

As was alluded to last week, there’s some Saffas in town shortly, and they’re coming to the Riviera for one night only, hopefully. I’ve been a long time admirer of these guys, the only reason we were yet to list them being the previous importer never came knocking/left me on two ticks, which is always nice. Good thing I don’t hold grudges…

So as I hoped and expected, the tickets for this one are shifting quickly. If you were thinking about it, now’s the time to pull the trigger. Who knows, maybe you’ll even be the lucky two who get to sit on the sofa for this one, feet up. Final tickets available here. Or at least they were at time of sending.

Keep eyes and ears tuned for several more tasting events which are due to launch imminently. It’s gonna be large.

I’ve had a coupla Savvy B’s recently. Don’t worry, things aren’t too bad. If anything it’s rekindled an appreciation for those operating at the top of their game, crafting wines which taste nice, taste like where they come from, and taste soulful. In my own words, a good Sauvignon Blanc is one that doesn’t taste at all like what your wino extended family pump into themselves at any gathering before bringing up that family drama and the day/night/month descends into chaos. Not that this has happened to me recently or anything…

NEWAY, here’s what’s good :)

One from Gembrook Hill back in the Yarra. Any thought of bias as to quality here can be cast aside and backed up by anyone who has ever taken an Australian recommendation from yours truly. I’m just not like that, often. This is sublime, showing a bit of barrel work (🏄) allied with more than decent fruit weight. Tasty.

A couple from Claude Riffault in Sancerre for my Francophiles. This is the good Riffault, not that guy. I tasted these recently and immediately snapped up more than we were allowed. That good. So good that even the team at Dan’s have taken to them, if the sales reports are anything to go by. Close your eyes and you’re drinking 1er Cru from further south. Open them and you’re wherever you actually are.

And finally not Sauvignon but pink wine from THE Sauvignon producer, so it’s very good. Not cheap but unreal. This has been pouring all week at the bar so I’ve been fortunate enough to QC the wine every morning and afternoon to make sure it’s in good nick. It is. You could be too.

That’s me, be you

xo
