Wasenhaus, Spätburgunder 2023
Place: Baden, Germany
Grape: Pinot Noir
Vibe: Classic, lighter
Germany is no longer just white wine country! This pair are not so quietly redefining German Rotwein, with perfect ripeness and restraint of oak. Given their CVs, and Burgundy being just a short drive due west, comparisons are fair game. Yet there is still something so singular about their output, wines that strike a balance between feeling both refreshing and deeply concentrated. Acid lines that modern vignerons of the Côte d'Or would kill for. Despite only being the Baden equivalent of Bourgogne Rouge, this is "entry level" in name alone, as the quality is anything but. ABV: 13%
