Santini, Bon Vin 2023
Place: Burgundy, France
Grape: Pinot Noir + Gamay
Vibe: Fun
Another belter of a blend. The fruit’s from pretty much all over. Pinot Noir from the Mâconnais and Chorey-les-Beaune, blended with Gamay from Chiroubles and a splash from Auxey-Duresses. Now, for some legal reason I won’t bore you with, only 600 bottles were released separately. Long story short: the Pinot from the Mâconnais is planted on an old abandoned plateau that hadn’t seen vines in 200 years, so it was left out of the AOP borders when the appellation was drawn up. Bureaucracy, eh? The winemaking? Also a bit of a head-scratcher. Each plot is vinified separately. Half the grapes go in whole-cluster, and the other half are direct-pressed to make a Blanc de Noirs-style must, which then fills the tank. Wild. The result? A juice so dangerously drinkable, I’m only reluctantly sharing the small allocation with you. ABV: 12%
