Giovanna Morganti is one of the most exciting names in a new wave of Tuscan winemaking. Her estate is just three hectares, and, Le Trame, translates as "the intrigues", a nod to the wheeling and dealing required to acquire the land. Her father was a legendary oenologist who believed in Tuscan varietals long before anyone else was paying much attention.

Giovanna studied oenology herself and spent the mid-80s working on a remarkable project to plant around 300 traditional Tuscan grape varieties collected from old vineyards. When her father gifted her a small farm called Le Boncie, she added a vineyard planted with her favourites from that project. Sangiovese takes centre stage, supplemented by Ciliegiolo, Colorino, Foglia Tonda, Mammolo, and Prugnolo, planted at a very high density of 7,000 vines per hectare.
