Catherine and Pierre Breton farm eleven hectares of vines in the village of Restigné, just east of Bourgeuil. The soil is varied here – gravel, limestone, clay, schist, and yellow tuffeau – and the wines are primarily made from Cab Franc, although they also grow some Chenin for their Vouvray wines. Their portfolio is split into three categories – ‘Natural Wine’, intended for easy, no-brainer drinking, ‘Classic Wine’, considered traditional expressions of the appellation, and wines of ‘Terroir’, which are vinified in single parcels. Catherine also produces her own set of wines under the label ‘La Dilettante’ (the Dabbler). Dabble on, I say. The Dilettante Vouvray is one of my faves.
