Matassa, El Carner 2021
Place: Roussillon, France
Grape: Grenache Gris + Macabeu
Vibe: Life Changing
Genre defining. You could call this light red, orange, or pink. Does it matter? No. What does matter is just how refreshingly tasty this is. 110 year old vines from a little amphitheatre in El Valle de Calce, macerated for a month in clay, with both skin and stems. Such a curious wine. It's aromatic and exotic, hard to describe: rosehip, red berries, tomato, orange peel, peach. I could go on. Whilst hard to put into words, it immediately registers as a wine from the magic mind of Tom Lubbe. Now with a little age, we get even more minerality, and the garrigue that surrounds the vines is starting to show. SO GOOD. ABV: 11%
