Maison Les Grands Pas, Gamay / Chardonnay 2024
Place: Jura, France
Grape: Gamay + Chardon (5% Savagnin)
Vibe: Natural, juicy
2/3 Gamay from Raphael of Saint-Cyr in the Beaujolais, that gets another short and sweet 15-day whole-bunch maceration. This is blended with all they got from their 2024 harvest of whites, mainly Chardonnay, but a 5% splash of Savagnin from their own 45-year-old vines at Au Couvent, both on heavy marls. Aged in barrel. I vividly remember trying this on my visit a couple years back. It’s been ingrained in my memory ever since, and since retasting, things have only harmonised further. More than a blouge, this is one of the most tear-jerkingly pretty wines I’ve had in a long time... ABV: 12%
