Lower Austria is usually a story of old family dynasties working the same land, vineyards and cellar for generations. The Strobls are doing it differently.

Their wine history only starts in 2008, when Clemens committed to a single hectare in the underrated Wagram. He was hooked on the texture of the area’s wines and backed single-vineyard Grüner Veltliner and Riesling, both rooted in dense, wind-blown loess. Today the family has a shiny new estate in Kirchberg and makes small amounts of cru wines like Rosenberg and Pfaffenberg (Riesling), and Schreckenberg and Losling (Grüner). Their estate blend, Donauschotter, pulls all the vineyards together and says Wagram texture better than anything.

Organic farming from early on, and now Lukas, who cut his teeth with Martin Gojer of Pranzegg and Clemens Busch, is taking the reins in vineyard and cellar. More biodiversity, more of a minimal hand in the cellar. Future is bright.
