La Calmette, Butte Rouge 2020
Place: Cahors, France
Grape: Malbec
Vibe: Bold
Malbec planted on Kimmeridgian (what you'd find in Chablis) bedrock, which is super rare. It gives the wine a real mineral edge, keeping things focused on florals and spice rather than weight. The iron-rich red clay is so intense you can literally find rusty stones scattered through the vineyard. Fermented in concrete then aged for two years in a single old 1000L foudre. A more structured expression but still unlike any Malbec you've had, cause its actually delicious. Pre-aged too, ur welcome.
