Kalma, Muscatedda 'Tangerine' 2025
Place: Sicily, Italy
Grape: Muscatedda
Vibe: Tropical
Muscatedda is an autochthonous Sicilian Muscat. This is always harvested early, often in July. Before gently macerating for a week, pressed into an old oak, where it hangs until being bottled without any input. Unmistakably Muscat-like, unmistakably Sicilian. Clues in the name here, all tangerine fruit flecked with island herbs, ginger spice and white pepper. Florals remain firmly in check and the finish is grounded in pure salt. This reminds me of the work from their mentor, Tom Lubbe, whose ethereal macerations are also just as elegant despite their warm origins. ABV: 11.5%
