Ham Street, Pinot Meunier 2023
Place: Kent, England
Grape: Pinot Meunier
Vibe: Flat Champers
Deft touch as per, all Meunier for the first time. Dark-toned due to a relatively warm vintage, well warm for England. Picked last for ripeness, de-stemmed and foot-crushed before a three-week maceration. Aged in barrel for 8 months before bottling via gravity with no additions.
Something between an English Tavel and what Prévost might produce if he made a Coteaux wine. Maybe? I’m a bit biased when it comes to the wines of Ham Street, but you’d be too if you’ve walked these vines. There is something special about them, no doubt due to the tireless energy put into the site from Jules and Lucy. ABV: 11.5%
