Mark Angeli of Ferme de la Sansonnière is somewhat of a legend in these parts of the Loire. An ecological activist who has been working biodynamically long before it was cool, these wines are true unicorns and quantities are painfully small. In fact, Mark spent many a year fighting with the AOC despite receiving widespread praise for his wines and since 2007 has ceased to label his wines under the Anjou appellation. He currently farms 7.5 hectares of predominantly Chenin, but has a few vines of the often overlooked Grolleau (Blanc, Gris and Noir). The vines are surrounded by fields for livestock, wheat and fruit trees, which help to increase the biodiversity in the area and even the SO2 used is completely natural, coming from an active volcano. Be quick, these never last long.
