Domaine de Trévallon was purchased in 1955 by René Dürrbach, an artist who was literally friends with Picasso. He just wanted to retire somewhere peaceful, but in 1973 his son Eloi came back from architecture school determined to make wine on the property. Though his wines don’t abide by the rules required to earn the title of A.O.C. Les Baux de Provence, remaining humble Vins de Pays, frankly, when they taste this good, who cares about appellations? Eloi sure doesn’t. He knows the blend is a hit, whether or not the board think it has 30% too much Cab Sauv. His artist dad designs the labels – so much for retirement, ey?
