Domaine Buronfosse, Savagnin 'Les Souspoids' 2022
Place: Jura, France
Grape: Savagnin
Vibe: Natural, textural
Souspoids is a lieu-dit getting some serious love in the Jurassien south at the moment. Situated between Rotalier and Gizia, sitting at roughly 250–450 metres altitude, with south and west-facing slopes that consist solely of Triassic and Jurassic marl soils on Bajocian limestone. This is a thumping expression, vinified 'Ouille' style in old barrel for 30+ months. The fruit has shed its skin, revealing a taut wine full of candied peel, spice and minerals. It's a real surprise to me why these wines don't command the same feverish hype as their neighbours in Rotalier... Anyway, means there's more for me! ABV: 12.5%
