Domaine Ballorin, Marsannay Blanc 2019
Place: Burgundy, France
Grape: Chardonnay
Vibe: Natural, textural
Burgundy is so full of newcomers. I’m pretty guilty of getting lost in the hunt for the new and shiny next thing. However, it’s always a pleasant surprise when you taste a producer with no preconceptions or expectations. So when I tasted this recently I knew I had to have some in my life. It’s certified biodynamic and the cellar work is equally respectful, without any heavy-handed oak influence. This is in the spot. 7 years to allow the fruit to go gloriously nutty, slightly creamy but still with plenty of citric tang. A powerful wine, not through excessive winemaking, but from the sheer quality of excellent primary material. It’s not a chore, and the price is also really nice considering both age and quality. ABV: 12.5%
