Mick and Jeanine Craven started Craven Wines in 2014 with the aim of making “site-specific, honest wines” from Stellenbosch. After meeting in Sonoma, California they decided to head back to Jeanine's hometown in South Africa to start their winemaking journey. The pair have intricate knowledge of their vineyards, and prefer to pick early and respectfully to best reflect the site and vintage. Indigenous yeast is favoured, and the wines are matured in older larger format oak. Minimal sulphur is used to keep things pristine, and the wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered.
