Guyonne Saclier de la Bâtie’s extended family have owned the Château de Bonnezeaux estate for generations, but in the 1980s the winery was shut down and the vines were abandoned. It wasn’t until 2012 that the family decided to bring the historic estate back to life, and Guyonne jumped right from her first internship in the Loire into the thick of it. Two years were spent replanting the vines, and they now have four hectares of Chenin Blanc. Archaic French wine laws mean that in this historic sweet wine appellation, any dry wine has to be bottled as Vin de France – good for the wallet!
