Catherine Dumora grew up just south of Bordeaux, studied anthropology, and spent years travelling before landing in the Auvergne, where she fell in with a group of visionary vignerons and started making wine herself around 2012, first alongside her then-partner Manu Duveau. In 2019 she moved to Lamontgie in the Puy de Dôme to go it alone, and now tends a hectare of old vines, forty to eighty years old, scattered across tiny parcels of granite, quartz and sand, topped up with bought-in fruit from local paysans and a friend in the Minervois. In the vineyard she keeps things minimal, hands-on, focused on soil health, and has largely avoided treatments so far. In the cellar it's all instinct, letting each harvest guide the wine from plant to glass. The result is some of the most thoughtful, original wine we've come across.
