Beck-Hartweg, 'Frankstein' Riesling Grand Cru 2021
Place: Alsace, France
Grape: Riesling
Vibe: Natural, textural
I've had this a few times now, over several vintages, and it is really something. The Grand Cru term in Alsace can be a bit of a misnomer, not always indicating upper echelon quality – that's not the case here. Long, slow fermentation of old vine fruit from vines grown on particularly dry soils gives us immense complexity and nerve. This has it all, power, freshness, fruit, florals. What a wine. ABV: 13%
