Bastian Wolber, Côte de Nuits-Villages
Place: Burgundy, France
Grape: Pinot Noir
Vibe: Natural, lighter
Two parcels both planted in the 1950s. Aux Vignottes, across the street from the Clos de la Maréchale, clay-heavy, shallow topsoil, Nuits-Saint-Georges-like in style. Aux Fauques, in Comblanchien, later ripening than Aux Vignottes (by about 3 days), higher limestone component. No sulfites. The character is more austere than the rest of the Laisse Tomber wines from the Côte de Beaune: darker, more broody, yet still so vertical. The aromatics are haunting and beautiful. For those who want to understand how Basti works in the Côte de Nuits. A great study session. ABV: 12.5%
