Aurélien Suenen, Champagne Oiry NV
Place: Champagne, France
Grape: Chardonnay
Vibe: Chalky
Isn’t it funny when a producer’s entry level is Grand Cru? When in Champagne, I guess. Retasted this after a couple of years and it was an instant rebuy. Pure and delicate, allowing the site to really shine. Plenty of chalk carried by a persistent line of acid from the limestone. This is vinous with soft bubbles, but without going too much into the salty umami side of things. So pure.
