Alfredo Egia, Izaki 2023
Place: Txakolina, Spain
Grape: Hondarrabi Zerratia + Hondarrabi Zuri
Vibe: Classic, crisp
I vividly remember being recommended this wine in a shop in San Sebastián. I was after something local, but I wanted something serious. Fatigued after countless carafes of thin, fizzy Txakoli, the proprietor told me this was the Basque equivalent of Burgundy. I was slightly hesitant, but decided to take a leap of faith.
He was bang on. Textured, with a bit of phenolic grip, this is unlike anything else from the region. There’s some weight here, but the acidity keeps everything feeling light on its feet. Golden and glorious. Sort yourself a salty snack to go alongside and your evening plans are well and truly sorted. ABV: 13%
