Piemonte, Porcelain and Perfection: Fabio Gea Lands at Parched

by Fionn

Fabio Gea finally lands properly at Parched and, surprise surprise, the wines are every bit as bonkers and beautiful as we'd hoped.

We had admired these bottles from afar for years, so finally getting stuck into the range felt a bit like Christmas for people who like odd ceramics and very emotional Nebbiolo.

Why Fabio Gea Matters

There are plenty of producers making great wine in Piedmont. There are not many making wine like Fabio Gea. Porcelain vessels, glass, earthenware, very little conventional thinking, and yet the results are not gimmicky in the slightest. If anything, they feel weirdly pure.

Everything here seems to have this charged, vivid energy to it. Nothing feels dulled down or overworked. It all just hums.

The Standouts

Back Grin is perfumed, alive, and exactly why Grignolino can be such a joy when it's in the right hands.

Cul Otte gives a younger-vine Nebbiolo expression with loads of lift and charm, while Mushroom Panda goes full herbal, earthy, joyous oddball in a way we absolutely adore.

Pino is the one that really messes with your head a little. Big, gastronomic, unexpectedly high-octane, but somehow still proper and delicious.

At the top end, the porcelain-aged Langhe is one of those bottles that makes you stop mid-sip and go a bit quiet. And then there is the lone bottle of Barbaresco, which is pretty much enough said on its own.

Plus A Couple Of Cases

The back half of the drop shifted into mixed-case territory, one easy and springy, one for the Burgundy-curious among us. Both came with serious savings and very little stock, so naturally we did our usual thing of making them impossible to ignore.

Shop The Drop

Tiny production, big personality, very little chance these sit around forever. If you like Piedmont with a strange little twinkle in its eye, this is your lane.
