JURA LUV STORY ❤️‍🔥

by Megan Jones

Heyy, Fionn here.

What a week it’s been. Megan has returned. The suns come out. Lots of good wine. Plus, we’re rounding things off with our Tasting with Wink Lorch. Life’s good.
Honestly, if I were you I’d be dropping all my plans immediately. Skip church, dodge the mediocre family roast, sack off the weekend run. Those are not what Sundays are for. Sundays are for wine. Wink’s gonna be presenting her new companion addition to the acclaimed Jura Wine. Basically the bible to all us winos. You’ll get three cherry-picked glasses from Wink herself alongside snacks from the region. Aged Comte + Morteau Sauasage anyone? After we’re opening things up to the masses, the Jura theme will however continue.

Only the region's finest BTG plus a healthy bottle list at nice prices. Vin Jaune will be flowing. Let’s hope the sun sticks around. Last tickets here. If you need a stupidly long lie-in, then join us after 4. No excuses, I wanna see you all there.

On the topic of Jura, I’ve just unpacked a small amount from one of my favourite producers. Bottes Rouges somehow seem to fly under the radar. Why I’ll never know. These are super solid, vibrant bottles that always over-deliver, always leaving me smiling. They might not carry as much hype as their neighbours but for us this is good. The prices are reasonable and accessibility is rarely an issue.

Teacher turned vigneron Jean-Baptiste Menigoz, spent 10 years alongside Tissot honing his skills before dropping the day job for good. From the get-go farming has been organic, with biodynamic principles applied to each parcel’s unique needs. The wines aren’t filtered nor fined, and SO2 is used sparingly at most. These are wines that Jean-Baptiste likes to drink himself. I like to drink them too, and so will you.

Castor from back in 2020 has this beautiful tingly acid that is just softening out to reveal some pristine fruit. In prime shape now but still with plenty of verve left. Leon, a little younger, also has that hallmark zip. This is so inviting now, it’s hard to resist, but I reckon if the Castor is anything to go by then this surely will only exponentially improve with a little snooze. Face B is the Savagnin offering. Brash and bold with plenty of texture, spice and more of that mouthwatering acid.

The Reds capture all that is glorious about the region. Wild, untamed fruit that hasn’t been overworked or overthought. A fragrant Pinot fermented in steel to preserve freshness here. A top Ploussard! My favourite grape btw so high praise indeed. This just ticks all the boxes you want from your lithe, easy-drinking, yet complex red. One last of the Gibus Trousseau which also leans light and bright. Can’t decide? Then go for the Boomerang. A destemmed combination of old vine fruit that is slowly macerated for a wine full of expressive, primary fruit. A wine that will keep you coming back for more.

Also, a little bottle of Oriol Artigas landed which is too good not to mention. From his #SOS series where he had a rough year and lost all the fruit. Thankfully his good friends donated some grapes so we didn’t go thirsty. Just look at the colour on this. Pithy citrus, Mediterranean herbs, salt. The perfect autumnal orange.

Finally, as teased on Intsa a singular bottle of this hyped-to-hell bottle from Japan. We got F*** all. I think first come, first served is the fairest way for this to be shared. There is also one bottle hiding away at Dan’s that if you ask nicely we might give ya…

SEE U ON SUNDAY
