MIXING IT UP đź‘˝

by Megan Jones

What’s up winos,

Enjoying the (presumably temporary) respite from temperatures more usually found on the surface of the sun? Yeah, me too. Got a random little mix of offerings for you today. The theme? Er… that they arrived this week? Does that count? Good. Thought so.

First up, got a new Txakoli for you. You know, that wine that people pour into glasses from a great height? This one’s from Agerre, and it’s slightly sparkling, citrusy and crisp, just like it should be. It’s also got a fairly modest alcohol content, as wine goes, which is great if you’re into that. We’re pouring it by the glass this week chez dan’s, so if you’re in the area you can swing by and try before you buy. I mean you still have to buy the glass, obviously. You know what I mean.

From slightly sparkling to full on bubbles, got three new fizzers from Quarticello up for grabs – an earthy Lambrusco, a beautifully aromatic pink, and a zesty Malvasia. Fun things to splash around at a picnic, or alternatively to pour into a thin-stemmed glass and drink while you talk about existentialism and puff on a cigar. You do you. These are wines for all occasions.

Moving on to whites, here’s a newbie from Ponce, aka the guy who can do literally everything. It’s an absolute snip for the quality you’re getting, and all kinds of complex too – mineral, citrusy, herbal. How he managed to get that result given how roasting hot it is in Manchuela is one of life’s great mysteries. Don’t think about it too much, just enjoy.

Finally in this week’s eclectic little line up is an Aligoté from Agnès Paquet, a wine blended from grapes grown on two totally different terroirs – Les Plumes in Meursault, on clay soils, and Le Clou near Hautes Côtes de Beaune, with young vines grown on limestone. Like a true master (or mistress? Why doesn’t that sound right?) she manages to combine the characteristics of both to give us a wine that’s both structured and elegant. How does she do it? Ours is not to reason why, ours is but to do or buy. I know. That was clever. Thanks. Anyway. Buy it here.

Gotta run, I’m off to New York next week on a research mission and I’ve got outfits to plan. Can you believe a $500 flight doesn’t include hold luggage? I’m going to have to work some magic on this miniature suitcase.

C ya!

Megan
