⚡RIESLING REFRESH⚡

Hey, Fionn today!
The sun has finally got the memo. If the weather forecast is correct looks like that summer weather might finally be here, albeit just for a day or two… When it’s hot, you just can’t beat the refreshment of Riesling. We recently went a bit mad so pls do us a favour and check out these newbies.
Hilda is the Rizza/Kerner blend you didn’t know you needed. Katla is all about hands-off but real classy winemaking. Yuzu-like acidity carries along hints of smoke and petrol before revealing a big whack of tropical fruit. Smashable but complexity is here if you have the time to go looking.
Sticking to the steep slopes of the Mosel we also picked up some new Staffelter Hof. You know the guy from one of the oldest wineries on record making some seriously wacky stuff on the side. See this Wiki article if you don’t believe me! Little B*stard has reached cult status. Stupidly sour, stupidly delicious, stupid value.
Papa Panda is also wonderfully weird. A playful spritz blows off to reveal something toasty. What’s that? A smidge of new oak on Riesling… Sadly this is a rarity. Far from overbearing, this adds subtle layers of complexity and texture. New oak and natty zero-zero wine-making is the winning combination I want to see more of. Ask my colleagues, I’ve been saying this for a while… This proves my point. Sadly, I don’t think this trend will catch on, shame cos this is sooo delicious. Stock up.
His other line focuses on the traditional stuff. These classics have stood the test of time, quite literally since the year 862. This will convert even the most skeptical, classic Mosel all for under 20 bucks. If you like a bit of residual sugar, and eating spicy food then this is for you. Perfectly poised between fruit ripeness and razor-sharp acidity. Another steal. If you like your Riesling older, with more of that developed thing going then this will be for you. If you like ‘em fizzy then here you go. Essentially, a Riesling for everybody and every occasion. Not that Riesling ever needs an occasion…
Other standout Rieslings whilst I’m at it. Gross with a Grand Cru bottle full of sun kissed fruit and plenty of petrol. Breathtaking!
This new Aussie bargain showcases the floral side of Riesling. So pretty, so refreshing, so cheap!
Finally, Keller just because Keller. Some of the finest wine money can buy!
ALSO, new dates for the diary.
Four Pillars, the Australian gin specialists are in town on the 7th of August. Come down and get acquainted. You’ll get four, yes four serves on the night plus plenty of good vibes and good chat.
Wine School is also back in August. If you missed the first round, more fool you. The sessions are basically an informal, somewhat educational piss-up. Expect plenty of wine, plenty of learning, and plenty of fun. First week I’ll be taking you around France before the rest of the sessions take you on a whirlwind tour of Europe. Come chat wine with me, promise I don’t bite.
Gotta go, boxes to pack, a tan to catch, etc…
