Veronica Ortega, Cobrana 2021
Place: Bierzo, Spain
Grape: Mencía + Doña Blanca + Godello + Palomino etc etc
Vibe: Light n bright
75% Mencía with the balance made up of various indigenous white varieties, from 90 year old vineyards that were traditionally co-planted with red and white grapes. That, plus the fact the vineyards are planted at 750m altitude and super gentle extraction in the winery means this is about as fresh a Spanish red as you can find. Seriously, find a fresher one, I'll wait. Super delicate and floral at first then giving way to ripe strawberry fruit, with a touch of menthol and pine chucked in for good measure. If you're looking for a summer red, you've found it. ABV: 13%
