Sextant, Bourgogne Blanc 2016
Place: Burgundy, France
Grape: Chardonnay
Vibe: Mature
Maturing Burgundy is a thing of beauty. When a supplier found some back vintages, I snapped at the chance but as ever where quality is high, quantities are small. Sextant is one of my favorite Burg producers, making honest expressions with real energy. This is a case-in-point example of how good 'natural' wines can age. I tucked into one of these over the weekend and let's just say it was in a very very good place. The fruit is now golden and quince-y, with a nutty complexity and ample acid. Not often do you see back vintages like this pop-up, go hard whilst you can. ABV: 12.5%
