Paolo Bea, 'Arboreus' IGT Bianco 2018
Place: Umbria, Italy
Grape: Trebbiano Spoletino
Vibe: Elite
Where does one begin when trying to describe the thought-provoking bottles of Paolo Bea? The local clone of Trebianno is trained high above the ground, often wrapping itself around trunks and branches of trees woven into the vineyards. Fruit is harvested late and is macerated on skins for a deeply hued delight. Expect wild herbs and plenty of citrus pith among a whole myriad of other notes that seem to evolve alongside this ever-changing wine. If you're into this sort of wine this is hard to beat. ABV: 13.5%
