Nibiru is run by young couple Josef Schenter & Julia Nather, both of whom had a wealth of experience in fine dining and oenology before turning their hand to winemaking. They oversee eight hectares in the northernmost corner of Kamptal, and are certified organic and biodynamic. Their approach in the winery is hands-off – harvest is done by hand, all wines are spontaneously fermented and SO2 use is minimal, even non-existent in some of their wines. They’re doing their best to distance themselves from the historically chemical-heavy farming of Kamptal, exemplified in their name – Nibiru is a mythical planet that was said to only cross into our solar system every 3000 years, travelling in the opposite direction to all the other planets.
