Iñaki Garrido, 'Las Toscas' 2022
Place: Tenerife, Canary Islands
Grape: Listán Blanco
Vibe: Incredible
I remember the first time I tried this, because I had to drink three other glasses of wine beforehand to muster up the strength to pay the price they were pouring it at by the glass. It was worth every eye-watering penny. The production here is miniscule, due to a small vineyard and an even smaller yield, but that's what makes it so special. Waxy in texture, there's slow-burning citrus fruit at the fore, with waves and waves of flinty smoke right behind it, and a lingering, salty finish. It's so pronounced you can practically smell it from across the room. One to get around asap. ABV: 13.5%
