François Chidaine, Montlouis 'Clos Habert' 2019
Place: Loire, France
Grape: Chenin Blanc
Vibe: Classic, textural
I am in love with the wines of Chidaine. Pretty much as good as it gets for white wine. I could drink this every day. One of the icons of the Loire, and indeed French winemaking. Chidaine produces consistency unheard of in these northerly climes, a true master of Chenin Blanc. This is bright and pure, showing a gentle substance at the start but in the middle it shows a fine phenolic depth, a wonderfully broad substance, with rich tangerine and orange fruit, as well as a delicious if rather fine-boned mineral and acid backbone. ABV: 13%
