Château de Béru, Chablis 'Montserre' 2021 / 2022
Place: Burgundy, France
Grape: Chardonnay
Vibe: Racy
This one comes from a single parcel right at the top of the Béru hillside, where well-draining soils help create a wine that’s all tension and precision. 2021 is one of my favourite releases yet, the oak is used with a light hand, and just enough to soften the sharp acidity and shape it into a smoky, citrusy bomb with hints of nougat and melted butter. The 2022, from a slightly warmer year lives up to the high standards of its predecessor. It’s a touch weightier and on the fruit. No bad thing, and maybe that makes it even more approachable right now. Tough choice? Not really. Get both. ABV: 12.5%
