Bencze Birtok, Chenin Blanc 2022
Place: Badacsony, Hungary
Grape: Chenin Blanc
Vibe: Natural
István loves the wines of the Loire Valley, and guess what us too! So much so that he thought he'd plant a little Chenin in Hungary to see what happens. I'm so thankful he did. Directly pressed into old burgundy barrels that he didn't top up for a few months so they aged under flor. They were then blended into larger oak and this time topped up for another year. The slight flor aging is nothing to be scared of, we're not in oxy territory here, it just adds a nice salty component. That is on top of the multi-layered citrus, lanolin, and nuts. Want more? Well expect a creamy mouthfeel and plenty of chalky minerality that is cut to shreds by lazer, and I mean, lazer sharp acid. You know when the caption is this long that I'm really into it. ABV: 11%
