NEW THINGS, OLD THINGS, GOOD THINGS ‼️

by Megan Jones

What’s up winos,

Happy Tues and all that jazz. How was your weekend? I took a break from wine drinking to let my liver recover from the Loire (read: I drank a bunch of pints instead) but I’m back at it today, refreshed and ready to crack open some good stuff. Luckily, good stuff is in plentiful supply around here.

Ecstatic to see top-tier Clemens Busch back on our shelves after far too long an absence. You can read all about my visit to the vineyard a few summers back here if you’re in the mood; if you’re not, all you need to know are these key words: Mosel, Riesling, and acid. Oh, and delicious. These were absolute standouts on a visit full of standouts, so run don’t walk, as they say.

In slightly more purse friendly news, we just landed the entry level wines from Nord-Sud, aka Vino di Anna’s Aussie project. We hung out with Anna for a hot sec at La Dive last week and she was telling us all about their new venture. They’ve rented space in a friend’s winery in Basket Range, and are sourcing organic fruit from a plethora of elite sites across Adelaide Hills. All the good natty buzz words - no fining, no filtering, indigenous yeasts, the works. Beyond how delicious the wines are (and how eclectic the blends are), what struck me most was the price tag. Hope it wasn’t just a typo on the invoice, hehe. These are stupidly good for under £20 - a fresh, salty white blend full of creamy peach fruit, and a beautifully balanced red blend that’s simultaneously juicy and fresh while still being cosy and warming. How do they do that? Science? Idk. Ours is not to reason why. Also in bargain banger news, a new bottling from Domaine de Thalie, purveyors of actually decently priced Burgundy. The Pich is a blanc de noirs made from Chardy and Pinot, and is a proper lesson in texture - lusciously smooth on the palate but somehow featherlight and refreshing. More science I don’t understand!!

New arrivals aside, it’s a pretty busy week for us over here (producers visiting, tastings, trade tastings, dinners - hard life, hard life) so I’ll keep this one (relatively) brief - but if it’s not already on your radar, Domaine de l’Iserand will be on the pans at Ken’s on Thursday, so snag a table if you can - I got a sneak peek at the menu and it looks banging, assuming my French (and handwriting-deciphering skills) is as accomplished as I think it is. When we saw Jef last week he had yet to book his flights, lol, so if you like good food and chaotic energy then come on down.

Lastly, if you wanna catch sight of the elusive Dan, and you happen to live in Scotland (or like to visit Scotland), he’s gonna be up in Edinburgh this Sunday at Clay, a wine fair dedicated to all things amphora, pouring some bangers from Domaine Gross and Iserand. Worse ways to spend a Sunday! Get ya tickets here.

That’s all! Love u!

xoxo
