Matt Gregory is making lo-fi wines from the unlikely location of Leicestershire, right here in the UK! After being a wine merchant for over 20 years, Matt wanted to get stuck in and make his own wines. After spending time with Theo Coles of the Hermit Ram, one of our favourite producers in New Zealand, Matt returned home to embark on his new adventure. He works on a small two hectare south-facing plot in the Leicestershire wolds, where some of the soil contains 200 million year-old Jurassic limestone. He works with the usual grape varieties we have come to expect from England, such as Bacchus, but has recently started playing around with some hybrid varieties too. Whilst not dogmatic in the cellar, he tries where possible to make wines without additions for immediate pleasure and delight.
